I told someone the other day that I'm in the middle of writing a YA/middle reader series, and they asked me, "Describe your main character to me." It was an odd question (most people what to hear about plot) but I was excited to answer. "Imagine Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Zoë Washburne from Firefly had a daughter that was smarter and more kick-ass then both of them," I said. "Got that picture? Good. Now imagine that girl growing up in foster care."
They stared at me in disbelief. Perfect.
